Allan L. Scherr is an American computer scientist born on November 18, 1940, known for his significant contributions to time-sharing operating systems and the development of the IBM MVS operating system for mainframe computers. He graduated from MIT and earned a Ph.D. while conducting research in performance measurement of the Compatible Time-Sharing System. Scherr managed key projects at IBM, including MVS and IBM DPPX, and became an IBM Fellow. After retiring from IBM, he worked at EMC Corporation and later ran for Town Board in Rhinebeck, New York.
