Àlvar Net Castel is a Catalan physician and academic born in Barcelona on February 2, 1939. He graduated in medicine from the University of Barcelona and worked at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, where he became medical director. He was a pioneer in establishing one of the first Intensive Care Units in Barcelona. Net Castel was active in preserving the modernist architecture of the hospital and contributed to various historical publications. He held a chair in intensive medicine at the University Autònoma de Barcelona and served as president of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Catalonia.
