Alvin Adolf Holmes (October 26, 1939 – November 21, 2020) was an influential American politician who represented the 78th District in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1974 to 2018. He was a prominent member of the Democratic Party and an advocate for civil rights, campaigning notably to remove the Confederate flag from the Alabama capitol. Holmes also participated as a delegate in the 1968 and 1996 Democratic National Conventions.
