Alvin Holsey, born in 1965, is a vice admiral in the United States Navy currently serving as the military deputy commander of the United States Southern Command since February 1, 2023. His previous roles include commander of the Navy Personnel Command and deputy chief of Naval Personnel. Holsey has notable command experience, including leading Carrier Strike Group 1 and serving as commanding officer of the USS Makin Island, the Navy’s first hybrid electric warship. A graduate of Morehouse College and Troy State University, he was nominated for vice admiral in September 2022, and for admiral in July 2024.
