Álvur Zachariasen was a Faroese union leader, teacher, and politician born on June 5, 1931, in Klaksvík. He was trained as a skipper in 1957 and worked as a union leader for Lauritzen from 1955 to 1964, then for Skipafelagið Føroyar until 1971. From 1972 to 1998, he taught at Klaksvíkar Sjómansskúla. He served on the Klaksvík municipal council from 1980 to 1997 and was a member of the Lagting for the Self-Government Party from 1994 to 1998, participating in various committees.
