Alvy R. Powell Jr is an American bass-baritone opera singer born on October 31, 1955. He had a distinguished career as a member of the U.S. Army Chorus and is renowned for his performances at presidential events. Notably, he played the role of Porgy in Gershwin's opera 'Porgy and Bess'. Before retiring in 2017, Powell was recognized as the oldest enlisted soldier in the Army. His contributions to the arts were honored with the National Medal of Arts awarded by President Barack Obama in 2015.
