Alwyn Rice Jones was the Bishop of St Asaph from 1982 until 1999 and served as the Archbishop of Wales from 1991 to 1999. Born on March 25, 1934, in Capel Curig, he was ordained as a priest in Bangor in 1958. He held positions as the vicar of Porthmadog and Dean of Brecon before becoming bishop. He was a strong advocate for the ordination of women, and during his tenure as archbishop, the rules were controversially changed to allow women to be ordained. He also supported the official approval of remarriage for divorced individuals in the church.
