Amar Ramasar is an American ballet dancer, born in 1981, who was a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet (NYCB). He joined NYCB as an apprentice in 2000 and became part of the corps de ballet in 2001. Notably, he was the only person of color to hold the title of principal dancer at NYCB as of 2010. After being fired in 2018 for inappropriate conduct, he was reinstated in 2019 following an arbitration ruling. Ramasar announced his retirement from NYCB, effective May 2022.
