Amar Singh is an Indian politician from Uttar Pradesh and one of the founding leaders of the Samajwadi Party, serving as its general secretary. He is a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of India's Parliament. Born on January 27, 1956, in Azamgarh, he was a close friend of Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan and billionaire industrialist Anil Ambani. Amar Singh gained prominence in New Delhi when the United Progressive Alliance government became a minority after the Communist Party of India withdrew support for the proposed nuclear deal with the United States.
