Amir Abdur Rehman Cheema was a Pakistani Islamist and a textile engineering student who attempted to murder a journalist in Germany. On March 20, 2006, he entered the offices of Die Welt with a knife, leading to his arrest. Following his detention, he was found dead in his cell on May 3, 2006, with discussions over his death raising suspicions of torture. The German authorities eventually claimed his death was a suicide after producing a suicide note.
