Known for his research on host-pathogen interactions and drug discovery, he is a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, India. He earned a Ph.D. from Jadavpur University and has identified survival mechanisms of Salmonella and explored hemoglobin endocytosis in Leishmania, contributing to new drug targets for typhoid fever and kala azar.
