Amos Oz (4 May 1939 - 28 December 2018) was an Israeli writer, novelist, journalist, and professor of literature at Ben-Gurion University in Beersheba. Born as Amos Klausner, he became one of the leading advocates for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since 1967. Throughout his career, he received numerous accolades including the Officier des Arts et Lettres in France in 1984, the Frankfurt Peace Prize in 1992, the Legion d'Honneur in 1997, the Príncipe de Asturias Award for Literature in Spain in 2007, and the Park Kyung-ni Prize in South Korea in 2015.
