Major General Ananda G. Weerasekara was a Sri Lankan military officer and monk who served as a key figure during the JVP insurrection. Born on 29 April 1943, he had a distinguished military career, being involved in numerous campaigns and holding pivotal roles, including Military Coordinating Officer and Commissioner General for Rehabilitation. After retiring in 1998, he engaged in politics and faced legal accusations regarding human rights violations. In 2007, he became a monk in the Buddhist monastic order and passed away on 28 December 2021.
