Anba Gabriel is the Bishop of the Diocese for Austria and the German-speaking part of Switzerland in the Coptic Orthodox Church. Born on April 23, 1959, in Bani Mazar, Egypt, he earned a doctorate in surgery in 1982 and practiced for seven years. In 1991, he entered the St. Pishoi Monastery, becoming a priest in 1995. He moved to Europe to support Coptic communities in Germany and Switzerland, and since June 17, 2000, he has served as the first bishop of the diocese, officially becoming a diocesan bishop in 2004.
