Ordained in 1953, he contributed to ecumenical dialogue and was a consultor for the Pontifical Secretariat for Christian Unity since 1974. He authored significant research on the Council of Chalcedon and its impact on Nestorian and Monophysite developments. A corresponding member of the Belgian Academy, he also served as editor of the Corpus Scriptorum Christianorum Orientalium for 16 years. He passed away on 30 January 1994.
