André Parrot was a French archaeologist specializing in the ancient Near East. He led excavation projects in Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria. Born in 1901 in Doubs, he passed away in 1980 in Paris. Parrot was the chief curator of national museums in 1946 and served as the first director of the Louvre from 1968 to 1972. He was also a member of the Academy of Inscriptions and Letters. Among his significant works are 'Sumer' (1960), 'Sumerian Art' (1970), and excavations of the Kingdom of Mari, showcasing his contributions to archaeology.
