Andreas Aas-Jakobsen was a Norwegian civil engineer born on October 10, 1905, in Tromsøysund. He was a pioneer in the use of concrete. After graduating from the Norwegian Institute of Technology in 1931 and earning his doctorate from the Technische Universität Berlin in 1935, he founded the Oslo firm Aas-Jakobsen in 1937. His company became a leading force in concrete bridge construction in Norway from the 1950s onward. He was awarded the Sam Eydes prize for building technical standardization and construction work in 1972.
