Andreas Papandreou was a prominent Greek socialist economist and politician born on February 5, 1919, and died on June 23, 1996. Son of the Greek politician Georgios Papandreou, he was educated at Harvard University. He served as Prime Minister of Greece twice: from October 21, 1981, to July 2, 1989, and again from October 13, 1993, to January 22, 1996. His rise to power marked a significant change in Greek politics, ending decades of conservative rule. He founded the Greek Socialist Movement, the first non-communist party in Greece, promoting unprecedented political and social engagement.
