He served as the director of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory for 35 years, from 1952 to 1987. Additionally, he held a significant role as the vice-president of the International Astronomical Union from 1964 to 1970. After World War II, he contributed to the development of a new observatory in Naucine, Crimea, following its establishment in Simeiz. His work greatly impacted the field of astronomy.
