Andrej Potanin is a Soviet and Russian physicist, as well as a former tennis player and coach, born on February 19, 1940, in Leningrad. He was a master of sports in the USSR since 1957 and won the Soviet Championship in singles in 1962. Potanin was the first Soviet tennis player to participate in the Wimbledon tournament in 1958, reaching the quarterfinals in the junior singles. He has also been a multiple champion in various disciplines in Leningrad and was inducted into the Russian Tennis Hall of Fame in 2010.
