Andrés Townsend Ezcurra was a Peruvian lawyer, journalist, novelist, and politician born in Chiclayo on March 23, 1915. He was a member and leader of the Partido Aprista Peruano from 1931 until his expulsion in 1981 over disagreements and corruption allegations. Townsend later founded and led the Movimiento de Bases Hayistas. His political career included serving as senator from 1985 to 1990, two terms as a deputy for Lambayeque, a member of the 1978 Constituent Assembly, and president of the Chamber of Deputies in 1968.
