Andrew Donald Booth (1918-2009) was a British engineer and a pioneer in computer development. He studied at Jesus College, Cambridge but did not graduate due to his dislike for pure mathematics. During World War II, he researched the crystallographic structure of explosives. He initially designed the Automatic Relay Calculator (ARC) and later, worked on low-cost computers, developing technologies leading to modern computer discs. Booth and his wife, Kathleen, who designed the assembly language for their inventions, eventually moved to Canada, where they taught at universities and continued consulting in computing.
