Andrew Philip Kingsford Osmond (1938-1999) was a British diplomat and novelist, known as the original Lord Gnome. He co-founded Private Eye magazine in 1961 and played a significant role in its growth. He was initially posted in West Africa and later in Rome. Though he named Private Eye, he sold most of his shares shortly after its launch. Osmond returned as managing director in 1969, achieving a remarkable 160% increase in sales during his tenure.
