Andrzej Czok was a Polish mountaineer born on November 11, 1948, in Zabrze. He achieved his first eight-thousander, Lhotse, in 1979 and summited Mount Everest via a new route in 1980, partnered with Jerzy Kukuczka. In 1982, he soloed Makalu and, in 1985, together with Kukuczka, became the first to ascend Dhaulagiri in winter. Despite suffering severe frostbite on this expedition, losing five toes, he later attempted the first winter ascent of Kanchengjunga but tragically passed away on January 11, 1986, due to altitude sickness after reaching Camp IV.
