Anil Kumar Gain (1 February 1919 – 7 February 1978) was an Indian mathematician and statistician known for his work on Pearson correlation in product moment in applied statistics, collaborating with Ronald Fisher. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Henry Ellis Daniels, the then president of the Royal Statistical Society. Gain was honored as a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society (FRSS) and the Cambridge Philosophical Society (FCPS). He served as the Head of the Statistics Department at the Indian Science Congress Association and later founded Vidyasagar University, named after Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar.
