Anita L. Allen, born on March 24, 1953, is a professor of law and philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she also serves as the deputy dean. She has been a fellow in the former Department of Medical Ethics at the Penn School of Medicine and is a faculty member in African studies and women's, gender, and sexuality studies. Allen has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She served as president of the Eastern Division of the American Philosophical Association from 2018 to 2019. In 2010, she was appointed by President Barack Obama to the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues.
