Ankie van der Meer is a Frisian singer born on April 17, 1959, in Akkrum. She is the twin sister of Didi van der Meer and grew up in Akkrum before moving to Hurdegaryp at age 15. Ankie was a teacher of French and English at Friesland College in Leeuwarden. She played music with Nanne Kalma in the band Irolt and later learned Esperanto to announce concerts. In 1987, inspired by Nanne's suggestion, she created Esperanto songs, leading to the formation of the group Kajto.
