Born in Caerphilly, she graduated from Cardiff University before studying harp at the Conservatoire de Paris, earning her Premier Prix in 1958. She became the principal harpist at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 1959 and had an international solo career. Griffiths was the head of the harp department at the College of Music and Drama in Cardiff until her retirement in 1979. An accomplished composer, she published arrangements of Welsh folk songs and a handbook for beginners. She also researched harp history.
