She has served as the Senator for the Collectivity of Saint Martin since October 2020, representing the Union for Democracy and The Republicans (LR) parties, and is the first woman to hold this position. Petrus has been active in politics since her election to the Territorial Council of Saint Martin in 2017 and has previously worked as a teacher and principal of Emile Larmonie primary school. She has also served as a volunteer firefighter.
