Antonio Canepa was an Italian university professor, partisan, and commander of the Volunteer Army for the Independence of Sicily. Born in Palermo in 1908, he graduated in law and became an active member of the Italian Communist Party, engaging in anti-fascist activities. Canepa worked for the British Secret Service during WWII and founded the EVIS in 1945. He was a strong advocate for agrarian reform and emphasized a popular basis for independence. He was killed in a shootout with the police in Randazzo in 1945, leaving behind a legacy of activism.
