Arafa Hussein Mustafa (February 27, 1940 - January 1, 2019) was an Egyptian Semitist who taught at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg until 2005. He studied at the University of Cairo and worked at the American University in Cairo before moving to Halle in 1969. His research focused on Akkadian and Ugaritic, especially comparative grammar, and he taught modern Hebrew and Aramaic. Mustafa was heavily monitored by the Stasi during his time in East Germany and played a role in the restructuring of his department after reunification.
