Archibald Stuart Nisbet "Archie" Semple was a Scottish clarinetist born on March 31, 1928, in Edinburgh. He was known for his work in the Dixieland jazz genre. Early in his career, he played with local bands in Edinburgh, often with his brother, trumpeter John Semple. Semple led his own band around 1952 and later joined notable bands such as those led by Mick Mulligan, Freddy Randall, and Alex Welsh. He recorded albums in the early 1960s but experienced a nervous breakdown that limited his career after 1964, reducing his presence in the jazz scene.
