Arezki Metref is an Algerian writer, poet, and journalist born in 1952 in Sour El Ghozlane, Algeria. He lived in Bouira before moving to Laghouat and later Algiers, where he studied at the Institute of Political Studies. Metref became a journalist in 1972, working with several newspapers including L'Unité and El Moujahid. He co-founded the weekly journal Ruptures in 1993. After the assassination of his colleague, he moved to France, returned to Algeria in 2001, and published numerous works while also engaging in painting, holding his first exhibition in 2004.
