Armando Aste was an Italian mountaineer born on January 6, 1926, in Rovereto, Northern Italy. He led the first Italian expedition to ascend the north face of the Eiger in 1962, alongside climbers such as Pierlorenzo Acquistapace and Gildo Airoldi. He achieved the first ascent of the southern tower of the Torres del Paine in Patagonia and completed numerous climbs in the Dolomites, where several routes are named after him. In addition to climbing, Aste authored books including 'Cuore di Roccia' (1988) and 'Pilastri del Cielo' (2000).
