Armando Ghitalla was an American orchestral trumpeter born on June 1, 1925, in Alpha, Illinois. He pursued music from a young age, graduating high school in 1942 and later attending Juilliard after serving in the U.S. Navy. Ghitalla was a principal trumpet with the Boston Symphony Orchestra for 15 years and was active as a soloist. He taught at multiple prestigious institutions, including the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, and was a mentor to many notable trumpeters. He passed away on December 14, 2001.
