Armas (Oleg) Mišin, known as Armas Hiiri, was a Finnish-Inkeri writer, literary researcher, and translator born on February 15, 1935, in Järvisaari, Inkeri. He was evacuated to Siberia during WWII and lost much of his Finnish language. After moving to the Republic of Karelia in 1949, he graduated as a teacher of Russian language and literature. Mišin published his first poems in Russian before turning to Finnish. He joined the Soviet Writers’ Union in 1964 and was active in the Karelian Writers’ Union from 1985. He was known for translating Finnish poetry into Russian.
