Armin Frei was a Swiss electro-engineer and inventor born on May 26, 1931, in Zurich. He is notably known as a co-developer of the world's first quartz wristwatch, the Beta 1, and is credited with inventing the miniaturized quartz oscillator used in it. Frei contributed significantly to the watch technology that transformed the industry in the 20th century. His work laid the foundation for the evolution of timekeeping devices. He passed away on January 23, 2012.
