Armin Kirfel is a German physicist, mineralogist, and crystallographer born on June 2, 1943, in Bonn/Beuel. He studied physics at the University of Bonn starting in 1962, earning his diploma in 1968 and a doctorate in 1971. Kirfel worked at the Mineralogical-Petrographic Institute in Bonn, had research stays in York and Carnegie Mellon University, and became a professor of crystallography in Würzburg and later in Bonn. He is recognized for his contributions to structural research, particularly in electron density distributions and resonant X-ray scattering. Kirfel became emeritus in 2008.
