Gustav Arne Ölander (December 31, 1902 – May 13, 1984) was a Swedish chemist known for his discovery of the shape memory effect in metal alloys. He became an associate professor of physical chemistry at Stockholm University in 1929, and later served as a professor of theoretical chemistry and electrochemistry at the Royal Institute of Technology from 1936 to 1943. Ölander held various important positions, including secretary of the Nobel Committees and director of the Swedish Defence Research Institute. He contributed significantly to chemical nomenclature and served on the Nobel Prize committee for chemistry.
