Arnold Soinla was the first Estonian to die in battle during World War II. Born on September 12, 1913, he fled to Finland at the start of the Winter War and fought in Norway against German forces during the Battle of Narvik. He was buried in the Lenviki churchyard in Norway. Most information about him comes from a diary published in 2001. Soinla's lineage includes a father from Crimea and a mother from Kolga parish in Harju County. He died on May 20, 1940.
