Arnošt Grmela was a Czech hydrogeologist born on March 28, 1940, in Prague and passed away on March 23, 2020, in Ostrava. He was an author of publications and articles on geology and hydrogeology, and served as the chairman of the Czech Association of Hydrogeologists. Grmela was a university lecturer who taught for nearly fifty years at the VŠB Technical University of Ostrava. In 2014, he received the Oty Hynie Award for his lifetime contributions to hydrogeology.
