Arthur McDuffie was an African American motorcyclist whose death in 1979 led to the Miami riots of 1980. McDuffie was killed by four police officers after he failed to stop at a red light. The subsequent release of the officers by the court sparked widespread unrest, resulting in 18 deaths, over 350 injuries, and more than 600 arrests. The events highlighted issues of racial tension and police brutality in Miami.
