Arthur Nobile was an American microbiologist known for developing Prednisone and Prednisolone, widely used immunosuppressants. He was born on May 6, 1920, in Newark, New Jersey, and grew up in Belleville. After serving in the Air Force in the Philippines, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1950. Nobile spent his career in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly known for his work during the early 1950s. He passed away on January 13, 2004, and was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2007.
