Arthur Parker Whetsol, also known as Arthur Whetsel, was an American jazz trumpeter born in 1905 in Punta Gorda, Florida. He was a member of the original Duke Ellington Band from 1928 to 1937 and participated in several iconic recordings during the band's Cotton Club era. Whetsol's lyrical trumpet style was influential, providing a contrast to other players of the time. He briefly studied medicine at Howard University but returned to music, leaving the band in 1937 due to health issues.
