Arthur Shawcross, born June 6, 1945, and known as the Genesee River Killer, was an American serial killer active in Rochester, New York, from 1972 to 1989. His early murders occurred in Watertown, New York, where he killed a boy and a girl. Following a plea deal, he served 14 years of a 25-year sentence. Most of his murders took place in 1988 and 1989 after his early parole, sparking controversy. He died on November 10, 2008, while serving a 250-year sentence for his crimes at the age of 63.
