He made notable contributions to solar astronomy and founded significant institutions, including the Udaipur Solar Observatory and Nehru Planetarium in Bombay. Bhatnagar's research included work at prestigious observatories in the USA. His efforts in popularizing science led to various initiatives such as solar observations during a total solar eclipse in 1995, as well as environmental projects in Udaipur. He left a lasting impact on astronomy and public awareness in India before passing away on May 18, 2006.
