His sumo career lasted 17 years, active from 1981 to 1998, peaking at the rank of maegashira 14. After retirement, he became an elder in the Japan Sumo Association and managed Nakagawa stable until its closure in July 2020. His tenure ended after he faced serious allegations regarding the mistreatment of wrestlers, leading to a demotion in the association's hierarchy.
