Svend Asger Berthelsen (1928-2011) was a prominent Danish geologist known for his significant contributions to the fields of Greenlandic structural geology, international plate tectonics, and Danish Quaternary geology. He gained international recognition as a young geology student for his geological cross-section of the northwestern Himalayas. Berthelsen also worked on mapping Precambrian metamorphic rocks in West Greenland and involved himself in various international seismic projects. In Denmark, he introduced the kinetostratigraphic method and critically opposed the disposal of radioactive waste in salt domes as well as the introduction of nuclear power.
