Ashoka Jahnavi Prasad, born on May 10, 1955, in Patna, is an Indian physician and psychiatrist. He proposed sodium valproate as a therapeutic alternative to lithium for bipolar disorder treatment in 1984. Prasad is controversially known in Anglo-Saxon psychiatric circles as an impostor and scientific fraudster, having made false accusations against Australian university doctors John Funder and David Copolov. Some authors have suggested referring to a psychiatric form of Hashimoto's thyroiditis with manic episodes as 'Prasad syndrome.'
