Askar Akayevich Akayev, born on November 10, 1944, is a former President of Kyrgyzstan who held office from 1990 until his ousting in March 2005 during the pro-Western Tulip Revolution. He is a renowned scholar in optics and electronics and has been a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences as well as the New York Academy of Sciences. Currently, he serves as a professor and chief researcher at the Prokhorov General Physics Institute associated with Moscow University.
